Children at Risk

What is the Children at Risk School?

The Children at Risk School is for Christians who are passionate about reaching out to children at risk, including street children, refugee children, kids from broken families, orphans, children with HIV/AIDS, and other children with different needs and challenges in their lives.

It is a full-time school with a 3-month lecture phase. The teachings and methods are developed in such a way that students can put them into practice straight away. They will be able to create their own detailed ministry project plan or personal development plan to help them further their ministry goals in a practical way.

After those first 3 months in the classroom, some schools offer an outreach of 3 months with cross-cultural experiences, while other schools offer one or two periods of a 3 to 6-month practicum. Both options, outreach and practicum, are offered to help the student put into practice the lessons learned during the lecture phase.

Hope Village

In response to Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) which devastated many islands in the Philippines last November 2013, YWAM Philippines is taking part in Adopt A Barangay Project in the city of Bogo, in northern Cebu. This is in response to the Lord’s direction to YWAM Philippines Leadership Team to focus on the need for long term rebuilding. The Adopt A Barangay Project is a community based rehabilitation plan designed by the Bogo City government to directly address the rehabilitation needs of the communities recovering from the Yolanda disaster. The program has identified 4,000 families as the most vulnerable and priority beneficiaries of the rebuilding and relocation component of the program.

Last November 8, 2017 on the anniversary of the super typhoon internationally known as Hai-yan marked the completion of phase 1 of our project! We had a special moving in celebration where the first 20 families excitedly took possession of their new homes! It was a great time of rejoicing and we thank God for His amazing grace in bringing us this far together! Renewed hope for the future was evident in each family and what a joyful day it was!

We continue to engage with the community through ongoing discipleship to see the vision of the people who love God, love their neighbors and make a difference in the world realized!

We look forward to future community development projects that will bring continued positive change and livelihood opportunities. Thank you for all your support and partnership in this ongoing project.

Please continue to back us up in prayer and giving, or even volunteering as we look to initiate phase 2 of our project! Our pledge to build houses for 150 families is a huge step of faith and we continue to look to our miracle working God for the breakthroughs we need!

Join with us to see the good work God has begun completed for His glory May God bless you for your faithfulness, generosity and partnership in restoring hope to needy families! Let’s continue to put a smile on God’s face together!

Word by Heart

The fastest growing school in YWAM, is training up storytellers! Bringing the words of Jesus to life by bridging cultures and languages. The stories will become so real to you that you will become like an eyewitness to the events found in scripture. Once you have experienced the gospel like this, natural memory is unlocked and you will be able to share the stories of Jesus word for word from one of the gospel books in just three months… without memorizing!!!

In this course students will discuss, debate and meditate on weekly scriptures from the gospel, in order to find deeper meaning and understanding of the Bible. Through this, students will have an experience so deep that they will be able to re-tell the stories from the gospel, word for word in their native language— as if they themselves were an actual eyewitness to the event! In doing this, students will be transformed to be more like Jesus. Students will also learn storytelling skills and practice natural memory techniques- without memorizing! Students will learn how to create imaginary memories and see for themself what the eyewitnesses saw and say what they meant- developing honest, technique-free communication that compels audience attention and understanding of the scriptures!

VISION

We are becoming “eyewitnesses” to Jesus’ story, the greatest story ever told! Word By Heart helps you know Jesus personally and share him in a unique way by internalizing the gospel story and sharing it word-for-word with others. You’ll experience Him through your own imagination- as if you were actually walking with Jesus himself while he performed many miracles… such as opening the eyes of a blind man!

FOCUS

Word by Heart is about experiencing Jesus through His Word. What if you had lived during Jesus’ time, and had actually walked the streets with him as one of his 12 disciples? What if you witnessed his miracles right before your very own eyes? How would this have effected your life, and the way you relate with the people/world around you? And how would you tell your friends about your experiences with Jesus? As we put ourselves into each of the stories found in the gospel, we begin to see Jesus in a whole new way- and become more like Jesus himself. Be prepared to be transformed through His Word!

Topics:

The process of “TruthTelling” Understanding the Cultural/Historical Background Re-imagining and Experiencing the Word/Events Personalization of the Passage/Events Learning the exact words of Scripture- without memorizing! Retelling the Story in a way that Captivates your audience.

In just 12 weeks, your way of approaching the scriptures will be transformed- and so will you! Experiencing the gospel in this way molds us to become more like Jesus! You will develop a deep hunger for more of the Word, and the Word itself will begin to naturally flow out of you as you share your experiences of the gospel with the people around you.

Discipleship Training School

A Discipleship training school, also known as DTS seeks to bring you into a more intimate relationship with God. It also gives you an opportunity to discover your passions and your part in God’s purposes for the world. It is for those who long to follow Jesus in new ways with a different perspective.

The course is a full-time program and lasts for five or six months. It consists of two parts: lecture phase and outreach phase. In the lecture phase, you will learn more about God and His world. You’ll learn not only from lectures but also from community living and practical training.

The outreach phase focuses on applying what you learned in the classroom through an intense, cross-cultural experience.

Lecture Phase

This is the first part of the training. Here you get to know and experience God trough different topics every week and each week we have different speakers from all over the world.

A lecture phase also includes worship, intercession, prayer, work duties, small groups and much more!

Outreach Phase

In the outreach phase our goal is to make God known to the people outside our base, in our community, to the islands, the village and other parts of the Philippines and the world.

With the things you learned in the lecture phase you will be able to share God`s Word and love to the people trough your testimony, performing arts and other ways.

YWAM Cebu focus mostly to reach out to the people in the Philippines and indo- China for our outreaches, but we always pray and let the Holy Spirit lead us where to go!

The DTS has two different prices making the school accessible to all those who wish to attend.

For foreigners, the school fee is $1,500. This covers the food, accommodation and other expenses during the lecture phase, except for travel expenses for the midterm outreach. This charge does not cover expenses during the outreach phase.

For those from the Philippines and other developing nations, the school fee is Php 30,000. This covers the food, accommodation and other expenses during the lecture phase, except for travel expenses for the midterm outreach. This charge does not cover expenses during the outreach phase.

The fee for the outreach can change from year to year, because it depends on where we will go. So the outreach fee here will be set during the lecture phase.

YWAM Values

We all live in community by our shared values as we advance God’s kingdom together.

1) Know God

YWAM is committed to know God, His nature, His character and His ways. We seek to reflect who He is in every aspect of our lives and ministry. The automatic overflow of knowing and enjoying fellowship with God is a desire to share Him with others.

2) Make God Known

YWAM is called to make God known throughout the whole world, and into every arena of society through evangelism, training and mercy ministries. We believe that salvation of souls should result in transformation of societies, thus obeying Jesus’ command to make disciples of all nations.

3) Hear God’s Voice

YWAM is committed to creating with God through listening to Him, praying His prayers and obeying His commands in matters great and small. We are dependent upon hearing His voice as individuals, together in team contexts and in larger corporate gatherings as an integral part of our process for decision making.

4) Practice Worship and Intercessory Prayer

YWAM is dedicated to worship Jesus and engage in intercessory prayer as integral aspects of daily life. We also recognize the intent of Satan to destroy the work of God and we call upon God’s power and the Holy Spirit to overcome his strategies in the lives of individuals and in the affairs of nations.

5) Be Visionary

YWAM is called to be visionary, continually receiving, nurturing and releasing fresh vision from God. We support the pioneering of new ministries and methods, always willing to be radical in order to be relevant to every generation, people group, and sphere of society. We believe that the apostolic call of YWAM requires the integration of spiritual eldership, freedom in the Spirit and relationship, centered on the Word of God.

6) Champion Young People

YWAM is called to champion youth. We believe God has gifted and called young people to spearhead vision and ministry. We are committed to value them, trust them, train them, support them, make space for them and release them. They are not only the Church of the future; they are the Church of today. We commit to follow where they lead, in the will of God.

7) Be Broad-Structured and Decentralized

YWAM is broad-structured and diverse, yet integrated. We are a global family of ministries held together by shared purpose, vision, values and relationship. We believe that structures should serve the people and the purposes of God. Every ministry at every level has the privilege and responsibility of accountability to a circle of elders.

8) Be International and Interdenominational

YWAM is international and interdenominational in its global scope as well as its local constituency. We believe that ethnic, linguistic and denominational diversity, along with redeemed aspects of culture, are positive factors that contribute to the health and growth of the mission.

9) Have a Biblical Christian Worldview

YWAM is called to a biblical Christian worldview. We believe that the Bible makes a clear division between good and evil; right and wrong. The practical dimensions of life are no less spiritual than the ministry expressions. Everything done in obedience to God is spiritual. We seek to honor God with all that we do, equipping and mobilizing men and women of God to take roles of service and influence in every arena of society.

10) Function in Teams

YWAM is called to function in teams in all aspects of ministry and leadership. We believe that a combination of complementary gifts, callings, perspectives, ministries and generations working together in unity at all levels of our mission provides wisdom and safety. Seeking God’s will and making decisions in a team context allows accountability and contributes to greater relationship, motivation, responsibility and ownership of the vision.

11) Exhibit Servant Leadership

YWAM is called to servant leadership as a lifestyle, rather than a leadership hierarchy. A servant leader is one who honors the gifts and callings of those under his/her care and guards their rights and privileges. Just as Jesus served His disciples, we stress the importance of those with leadership responsibilities serving those whom they lead.

12) Do First,then Teach

YWAM is committed to doing first, then teaching. We believe that firsthand experience gives authority to our words. Godly character and a call from God are more important than an individual’s gifts, abilities and expertise.

13) Be Relationship-Oriented

YWAM is dedicated to being relationship-oriented in our living and working together. We desire to be united through lives of holiness, mutual support, transparency, humility, and open communication, rather than a dependence on structures or rules.

14) Value the Individual

YWAM is called to value each individual. We believe in equal opportunity and justice for all. Created in the image of God, people of all nationalities, ages and functions have distinctive contributions and callings. We are committed to honoring God-given leadership and ministry gifts in both men and women.

15) Value Families

YWAM affirms the importance of families serving God together in missions, not just the father and/or mother. We encourage the development of strong and healthy family units, with each member sharing the call to missions and contributing their gifts in unique and complementary ways.

16) Practice Dependence on God

YWAM is called to practice a life of dependence on God for financial provision. For individuals and YWAM corporately this comes primarily through His people. As God has been generous toward us, so we desire to be generous. YWAMers give themselves, their time and tenets to God through the mission with no expectation of remuneration.

17) Practice Hospitality

YWAM affirms the ministry of hospitality as an expression of God’s character and the value of people. We believe it is important to open our hearts, homes and campuses to serve and honor one another, our guests and the poor and needy, not as acts of social protocol, but as expressions of generosity.

18) Communicate with Integrity

YWAM affirms that everything exists because God communicates. Therefore, YWAM is committed to truthful, accurate, timely and relevant communication. We believe good communication is essential for strong relationships, healthy families and communities, and effective ministry.
